COVID and Vaccinations

Some news on South Colchester and indeed Essex wide COVID.

This pandemic has been long and a struggle for humanity to get to terms with the impact on our health.

I have lost neighbours and Council and ex Council colleagues and remain concerned over the coming months

Firstly, after seeing South Colchester etc in the low band for take up of vaccine, I expressed concern to NHS senior management and asked for a visit by the COVID vaccine bus to visit Monkwick. They offered me a visit on a Saturday in August and came to The Willows estate, and to LIDL carpark in Abbots Road. The bus is staffed by volunteers and NHS professionals who I thanked so much for their work.

Vaccines were administered at these sites. I have asked for future visits by the Bus in South Colchester.

Secondly, hot off the press are messages from Essex County health team and the narrative is rather more cautious and urgent.

The decline in COVID case rates across Essex has levelled , and infection rates are at a much higher level than I would wish to see. This means we need to remind all of the need to retain the messages around hands, face, space.

There is an increase among the over 60s COVID rates now; while nearly all this age group have been double vaccinated, the NHS are always aware of other conditions they may have.

Hospitalisations have increased somewhat, with some pressures on hospitals being reported. We are now have a higher covid hospital occupancy rate but, pleasingly, the ICU occupancy has stayed low.

IMPORTANT – IMPORTANT – IMPORTANT

Vaccination remains a high priority. While the percentage of those in the 30-39 age group is at a pleasing 72% for first jabs, this too has stopped. It is vital NHS continues to vaccinate people during the summer before all the ailments of autumn and winter arrive..

We all agree I feel that we have all had enough of the pandemic.

I would personally urge all readers to get a vaccination if not yet had a jab. This is the only way out for the health of the nation
